green bananaToday’s health section of the news questions whether artificial sweeteners don’t actually cause weight gain. Well, that’s got to be a bit of bad news for just about the whole world. Following the article on the homepage of Scientific American, are these additional article links for further reading:

  1. Sugary drinks raise risk of gout in men
  2. Sweet Snacks May Slacken Stress
  3. U.S. dietary guides criticized for potential harm

These mixed messages should convince us the human body is a complex biosphere, whose delicate balance, the doctors have not yet figured out.

In the ’90s Echinacea was the natural, herbal cold remedy of choice. Now in the 21st century we scientists tell us it may not actually do anything for us at all. Reported some years ago was the existence of some 20,000 diet books for sale at any given time; the majority of which are endorsed (if not written by) medical doctors. Whose opinion is to be believed?

There is nothing new under the sun as a wise man once quipped. If you want to increase the odds that you will live long and healthy, simply eat right and exercise. This age old wisdom is still true today based on current research reported at Medpage.com under the headline, “Men Who Maintain Healthy Habits Lead Much Longer Lives.” The primary sourced research is at the end of the article for skeptics. Nevertheless, the bottom-line is, we should eat right and exercise and chances are, something else will kill us before our health fails. Human ecology is fragile.
